    Reconnecting with the survivors

    Reconnecting with the survivors

In January and February 2012, Anne-Marie and the board of the Mukomeze Foundation – recipient of the proceeds from “The Men Who Killed Me” – visited its partner organisation Solace Ministries in Rwanda. The visit provided a wonderful opportunity to see first-hand how the beneficiaries of Mukomeze’s sponsorship programme are doing, as well as the opportunity to visit projects sponsored through the Mukomeze Foundation, such as a university project and a number of income-generating projects involving a fruit trees nursery, ground nuts farming, sewing and knitting.

    Faustin, Ernestine and Hyacintha sing

Faustin, Ernestine and Hyacintha sing with other survivors in a small village in Muyira, Rwanda, where they all live. Not many foreigners come this way and the children of the village had an entertaining time following Samer around. Their singing is infectious.

    Genocide Survivors Dancing in Kigali

One of the things that always amazes me when I go to Rwanda is the resilience of the genocide survivors. Despite losing everything, many of them love to sing and dance and have a great time.
