Anne-Marie has edited a newly-released publication focusing on developments in recognizing, investigating, and prosecuting cases of sexual violence in (post-) conflict situations from an interdisciplinary angle.
Can the International Criminal Court sustain a conviction for the underlying crime of mass rape without testimony from victims? Over the holidays, Anne-Marie and her partner Freek made a trip to Rwanda to celebrate her good friend’s marriage. While they were there, they had the opportunity to visit Solace Ministries, and reconnect with many of the people who helped make “The Men Who Killed Me” happen, including some of the women featured in the book.
In August 2010, Mukomeze paid a visit to Solace Ministries in Kigali, Rwanda. During our visit, we were able to reunite with almost all of the seventeen individuals who shared their testimonials in “The Men Who Killed Me”, and had the opportunity to see first-hand how they had used the proceeds of the book to build better lives for themselves and their families.
On November 5th, Tilburg University will host a meeting in remembrance of the Rwandan genocide. Co-writer and professor Anne-Marie de Brouwer and professor Rianne Letschert will share their recent experiences in Rwanda where they met with survivors featured in “The Men Who Killed Me”.
Anne-Marie and Samer meet with Rwandan survivors whose testimonials will be showcased in our book. Here we meet Jeanette Uwimana, Faustin Kayihura, Marie Claire Uwera, Marie Jeanne Murekatete and Adela Mukamusonera, all beneficiaries of Solace Ministries.
