    Rwanda’s justice minister criticizes the ICTR

    Rwanda’s Justice Minister said the refusal of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda to let the country host records of trial proceedings constitutes a betrayal. The Minister, who said the trial records are an integral part of Rwanda’s history, told the United Nations General Assembly that the international court had also failed to serve its cause.

    New G8 initiative to combat sexual violence in conflict

    The G8 just announced an initiative to ramp up the fight against rape and other sexual violence in conflict by committing the group to help victims of sexual violence in war, prevent further attacks and hold perpetrators responsible for their crimes, with $35.5 million in funding targeted to those efforts.

    New Gender Jurisprudence and International Criminal Law Project

    The American University Washington College of Law has launched the Gender Jurisprudence and International Criminal Law Project, which aims to raise awareness of and encourage research and debate about the jurisprudence emerging from international and hybrid tribunals regarding sexual and gender-based violence committed during times of conflict, mass violence, or repression and to facilitate the investigation and prosecution of these crimes under international law.

    A Dutch court found Yvonne Basebya guilty of instigation to commit genocide in the run up to and during the 1994 genocide.
